The Notice Board
The notice board is a civic archaeology of drawing pins. You read:
- CHOIR PRACTICE, every Monday.
- BINGO, Tuesdays, prizes include a ham.
- WEDNESDAY MARKET, as usual.
- FISH SUPPER FRIDAYS at The Black Buoy.
- SATURDAY: BOOT SALE. Sunday: rest.
The week, as advertised, has six days. There is a gap in the schedule that no one has filled and no one has mentioned, like a missing tooth everyone's tongue avoids.
At the bottom, a newer notice, in handwriting you recognize from a shopping list:
LOST: CAT. Grey, judgmental, answers to his name (will not come). Reward: marmalade. โ E., Foxglove Cottage
Someone has pinned a small anonymous note beneath it: "We have not seen it. Stop asking."
